When I first started dating my husband Adam, he had just broken up with a woman. It was my first time dating someone bisexual, and I was filled with doubt and confusion as to whether this could work. Would he leave me for a woman eventually? How would I feel if he found a woman attractive, out in public? Did he eventually want to have children through old-fashioned procreation?

The porn question
Both of these things can be true at the same time. The problem lies in the fact that people assume that trans women are all just the same as the stereotype that you have built up in your minds! The stereotype of trans women as: a deceptive predatory sexually voracious straight man who will do anything to have sex with cis lesbians! What is a problem is when you have a malicious ideology against trans women and place your personal boundaries into this rubric. There is nothing forcing you to do that. There is nothing forcing you to apply malicious misinformation and stereotypes to trans women. However I will never concede the fact that stereotypes influence how you perceive people! And as a corollary to this fact, I can certainly say that there is transmisogyny among cis people. This is not simply an issue that has regards to dating, obviously, it is something that informs all social interactions that other people have with trans women. Not equating these issues, just pointing out that social avoidance IS a part of interpersonal oppression against marginalized groups.
NEWS: BI LIFE COACH - public interview on this new consulting service from the Bi Men Network!
This blog is co-run by an 19 year old bi guy and a 20 year old bi girl who wanted a space to talk freely about being bisexual, feel free to follow and join in! Honestly I think the easiest thing would be to just ask! If you suspect that coming out would put you in an unsafe position then I would hold off for now. As for your dad, it may be best to talk to your mom about how to tell him since she obviously knows him better. In general though, just know that no matter how your parents react you are still valid and important. Hello there! As long as it is safe for you to do so of course. First of all I apologize for the long response time. School and life got in the way of us keeping this blog updated!
